I just got back from a charity event at which (witch) there was a band, "Tribe 7," that had a really fantastic bass player. Though he looked kind of like a braided-hair version of th' drummer from th' New Power Generation, he played like Larry Graham on sugar high, tossing insectoid scrapes and gut-twisting low notes into popular jams like "Jenny from th' Block" and "Crazy in Love."
His instrument was one of those 90s-looking six-string models with fancy wood and a fretboard one could land a Cessna on -- maybe a Burns or something.
A lot of th' time, guys that use these six-string basses play like diseased llamas. You know, poorly-timed and with too many notes. This guy though, he sounded like th' world's dopest TR-303 sequence, he was so on-time and huge-toned.
With guys like this running around, is there even a reason for someone like me to play bass? What role does th' mediocre bass player have in our society? Maybe I should just toss my bass out th' window and hope it hits a hippie on th' noggin.
P.S. "Jenny from th' Block" is actually a pretty good tune when it has a Godzilla bassline behind it. It had th' oldies shaking it down like they were Mob enforcers.
